I'm back in full creative motion and cranking out a new crew of paper dolls! It took me a while to get back into the swing of things but as soon as I sat down and started stamping, cutting, snapping, and gluing, it felt almost second-nature.
My latest update is pretty cool news! I will be displaying my paper dolls at this year's San Diego Comic-Con International Art Show in July. This art show will be my first for the Comic-Con and I look forward to doing many more! My goal is to have at least 16 paper dolls to show and most will be available for sale. Therefore, in order to stay focus for this event, I will continue this temporary break from blogging.
However, I would love to share with you a quick look at some of my current creations for the upcoming art show!
My latest Bebe Paper Doll "Bebe on Fire - an Ode to Katniss" is based on Katniss Everdeen, the protagonist of "The Hunger Games", who appears in a key scene wearing a gown of flames. I took the suggestion of my sisters, Rose and Stevie, to make such a fan-based paper doll.
My Bebe Paper Dolls are the artistic culmination of my love of Japanese Anime and couture fashion. Also, Bebe is the name of my goddaughter.
This multi-jointed Bebe Paper Doll is a Special Edition Bebe that I make especially around the same time of the San Diego Comic-Con. She is double-jointed for more movability and anime action!
Also, this Special Edition Bebe Paper Doll (which I haven't named yet...and would love any suggestions too!) is my second to date. I made my first one back in 2011.
My Mermaid Paper Dolls are my favorite to make and I hope to present at least 10 of these dolls for the Comic-Con Art Show. So far I have made several mermaid dolls: one is influenced by seaweed and the ocean waves, another is based on a sunken ship deep below the water, and the third is inspired by the astrological sign of Sagittarius.
On a side note, for some odd reason, I think my trio of mermaid ladies above remind me of "Charlie's Angels"...albeit a bit more ethnically diverse and a lot more fishy! I shall call them "Charlie's Mermaids"!
Jill, Sabrina, and Kelly: the original "Charlie's Angels".
Thanks for being here! And I will be sure to share more of my paper dolls in the upcoming weeks before Comic-Con. The 2013 San Diego Comic-Con will be held on Thursday, July 18th through Sunday, July 21st...I can't wait!
